One of my images got Highly Commended at the BBC – Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 competition, the ‘Oscars’ of nature photography. I’m ecstatic ! Over 43.000 images from 94 countries entered the competition … having one of the winning images is a great honor – and joy !

My winning image is called “White on White”, representing a couple of parading Whooper Swans on a frozen lake in northern Sweden. This is the first shot of a series of these magnificent birds.
I found the location accidentally, touring by car while waiting to go into a black grouse hide in the evening. Luckily, the sky was overcast : the brightness and contrast were manageable. As soon as I saw the birds, I pulled over and got ready to shoot. And I got lucky once more – just as I was ready, the parade started in full glory : flapping wings and dances over the frozen surface. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was magnificent !
I was also very happy that another image that I really like, called ‘Lost’, made it to the finals :

félicitation pour cette excellente photo.
A bientôt au pays des crêpes et des jolis paysages.

Je découvre la seconde photo et je dois dire que… je la trouve encore plus belle !
Bonne idée ce blog, je suis déjà fan !!!
